Thankful for preschool Chapel buddies!

Let it snow, let it snow....

Today, my 5th graders got to make some “snow” in the classroom while studying chemical reactions.  We used 3 cups baking soda to one cup conditioner.  Everyone was definitely ready to be hands on this new substance we created!

Apollo Bear: The Syrian long hair hamster that won the hearts of our 5th graders.

Our class pet, a Syrian long hair hamster I purchased last weekend after the class saved 100 Bethlehem dollars, has found his place within the hearts of many students.  

The students are still learning appropriate boundaries to keep with Apollo, especially if he is napping.  He gets a little grumpy if he is poked through the cage while sleeping, yet is slowly adjusting to his 5th grade habitat.

He has enjoyed strolls in his ball during brain breaks within the classroom, and will fall asleep in his ball if he ends up beneath the computer table.

Having Apollo around continues to be a huge incentive for my students.  They also know that he needs to be looked after.  For a few days many students made sure he was getting enough food, water, and attention!

Whereever you may be, 

God has given us great responsibility—

to be stewards to the great and small,

Dutifully serving them all!

Ch-Ch-Changes in Science

Today in 5th grade Science we continued our talk on Matter: Physical and Chemical changes.  The students observed how acetone nail polish remover reacted to a styrofoam cup, and how Red Bull reacted with whole milk.

My 5th graders completed a procedure page as an assessment.  They reacted to both labs with explosive “Whoas” and “Ahs.”

Going the distance for a good cause!

Today our 5th graders ran/shuffled/walked/limped around an oval that was painted on the church parking lot.  The reason?  To raise over $10,000 for school! The school raised over $11,000.  We raised over $850.

Back during the 1960’s President Kennedy challenged America to run 50 miles in 20 hourshttps://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/wellness/jfk50-a-soft-american-accepts-the-challenge/2012/11/05/6066df4a-1d86-11e2-ba31-3083ca97c314_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.2467b690d9a2 .  At Bethlehem, students ran 30-35 laps in an hour.  The details may be different, but the outcomes are similar: being a part of something special as proud Americans. When we work toward something greater, while graciously utilizing our God given gifts, this Nation prospers.

We had the opportunity to hang with our Chapel buddies while coloring flags on Constitution Day. 

Kokomo's Day

Instead of having a Field Day, as we usually do at Bethlehem, students were able to attend Kokomo's in Kochville Township.  For $15, students were able to play laser tag, putt putt golf, ride the roller coaster, bumper boats and go carts, as well as having a slice of pizza and a drink.  The weather held off until it was time to go, then the skies opened up and dropped buckets full of warm liquid to the earth.  

I am thankful for all the smiles I got to see today----and during the school year.  So blessed to have taught these students. I am looking forward to watching them grow as they enter into 6th grade.  I am also looking forward to shepherding a new group of students to new experiences.  God has a place for us all---and I am thankful that God continues to provide me with a wonderful opportunity in Bethlehem.

May the gift of Easter continue to Bless you!

We got to celebrate the gift of Easter, not too long ago, with out Chapel buddies by coloring Easter eggs.  Many of our preschool buddies were coloring eggs for the first time!  I am thankful that Mrs. Short provided the eggs and coloring accessories for this event.  A few of our 5th graders peeled off the shells later that day to consume the hard boiled yolk, some for the first time.

We need to keep Jesus's sacrifice fresh in our daily lives.  By reminding ourselves of His sacrifice, it is my belief we can postively reach out to others with the Word, pull ourselves out of thoughts or events that are pulling us down, and resurrect our hearts and minds.    

Before we engaged in this event, Mrs. Engelhardt spoke with the students about the meaning of the Easter story.  She hid special eggs around the classroom for the students to find.  Inside each egg was brief Biblical discussion points about the events before, during, and after the death and resurrection of our Lord.

As each day progresses toward a warmer earth, with the promise of dormant life flourishing again, may be continue to share the good news about our LORD, who renewed us by going to the cross.  Through his death, Jesus removes the icy hands of sin and death, and equips us with the Word that
allows us to grow.

In closing, Isaiah 43:19 states:
Behold, I am doing a new thing;
    now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
    and rivers in the desert.
May the Holy Spirit continue to  comfort, guide, keep us in faith, and steer us toward the Word when we wander in our deserts and wildernesses.

Charger Pride during Lutheran School Week!

During a "brain break" in our classroom, we decided to make a few videos to show our CHARGER PRIDE!

Opportunities for students after school.

We have been blessed to be offering 4 after school sessions for students to take part in beginning February 12th.  Students will be coming home with flyers that detail each session.  They are:  Agriculture (AG)  in the Classroom, Tech Team, Coding Club and S.T.E.M.  Each group is on a different day of the week, beginning at 3:30.  Each  group is catered to specific grade levels.

The group I am particularly interested in is AG in the classroom.    It will be on Mondays from 3:30-4:30 p.m. This group is open to 1st- 8th grade .I will be teaching this group with Dr. Frederick.  In this group, students will have the opportunity to learn about 4-H, growing a garden (we are planning on starting a garden outside), and learning about how agriculture impacts our lives!

If you have a special interest in the AG group, please let Dr. Frederick or I know!
